Toegang Vergemakkelijken: Cultuurgevoelige Gezondheidszorg voor Migranten in Merelbeke-Melle
How accessible is healthcare when language, information gaps, and unfamiliar systems are present?
EDISE Mobility vzw, together with local partners in Merelbeke-Melle, is launching a community campaign focused on improving access to culturally sensitive healthcare information for migrants and people with a migration background living in the municipality.
As the international community in Merelbeke-Melle continues to grow, many residents still face challenges navigating the Belgian healthcare system, understanding insurance options, accessing mental health support, and finding safe spaces to ask questions and seek guidance. This campaign aims to bridge those gaps through awareness, education, dialogue, and community engagement.
The project will include multilingual information kits in Dutch, French, and English, public information sessions, focus group discussions, safe-space conversations, and collaboration with local authorities, schools, healthcare actors, and community organizations. The campaign also supports more inclusive care practices and promotes emotional well-being and mental health awareness for people with migratory backgrounds.
The initiative contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals, including:

Activities will take place throughout 2026 in Merelbeke-Melle, including public engagement sessions at Cultuurhuis Merelbeke-Melle and online outreach initiatives.
